In a few short days, October 17 to be exact. Canada will be the first North American country to federally legalize cannabis for adult use. This is a amazing step forward for cannabis reform. How will this effect the cannabis movement in America? A hopeful person would think that it would push law makers to move cannabis forward on their agenda. Which is what it has seemed to do. There has been a announcement that the White House is considering rescheduling cannabis. Unfortunately, this is not the first time they have talked about rescheduling. The last time they said, in a nut shell, that if they rescheduled cannabis all the states with recreational use or adult use would be in violation of federal law. (Not that they are already in violation or anything) the reasoning behind this was that if they rescheduled cannabis then they admit it has medical value and can not be used recreationally. Im not a politician or anything but that does not make sense. Still, this is the “logic” that was used. Now with Canada on the forefront of full blown legalization the White House is looking at rescheduling again.
What is really concerning is it seems like the people in power in the United States are more concerned with filling their pockets with cash than helping their fellow American with affordable medicine. Would it not make sense to allow everyone access to a life saving medicine? Would this not allow us as a species to grow? These are the questions we are left with.
